For-Hire Freight Volume Rises to Second Highest Level in 2 Years

The amount of freight moved by the nations for-hire transportation sector rose 0.5% in November from the month before, according to new Transportation Department figures. The index measures the output of the for-hire freight transportation industry and consists of data from for-hire trucking, rail, inland waterways, pipelines and air freight For-hire freight shipments measured by the index were up 1.5% in November compared to the end of 2015 while November 2016 for-hire freight shipments were up 2% from November 2015.
